Submissions Page
If you have received this link, it is likely because you have an idea of something to share (or you've been snooping around). Before submitting your thing, please review our guide below. Events that don't adhere to our very limited rules will be dismissed outright. Remember: we're looking for things that foster creativity, trust, and (most of all) participation from the weirdos attending.
Required Reading
Rules
- You are taking FULL responsibility for its direction/outcome.
- No events by corporate or political organizations.
- No evangelizing for religious organizations (unincorporated alien cults and the like are, however, fully welcome).
- Steer clear of drugs and alcohol. If the event isn't weird enough without them, you're probably doing it wrong.
- Leave no trace (unless given permission by property owners to create a permanent installation).
- FREE events only. You are welcome to require participants buy their own equipment, costumes, transport etc. if needed, but you cannot take a profit from any event you host. If money is to be gathered, it should be for hosting costs alone* via suggested donation.
Host Responsibilities
- You must attend your own thing, start to finish.
- You must complete all necessary preparation and planning.
- You must provide a description of the thing, any risks involved, and any accessibility concerns.
- You must provide contact information for questions from fellow weirdos.
- You must supply a list of required equipment/clothing/materials.
- You must coordinate the group before/when the thing begins. This includes sharing:
- a repeat of all necessary details of the event, including risks involved
- contingency plans for when things go wrong (please be thorough and creative in describing all the ways your event can go wrong)
- a plan for dealing with onlookers or authorities if necessary.
Additional Tips
- Consider how your event will encourage participation. The goal is for everyone to take an active role in making Portland weirder. Spectator events are highly discouraged.
- Provide clear intentions for your event, even if they're tentative. This way participants have an idea on how to carry your dream to reality.
- Let go of all expectations. Even though a clear intention will help guide an event, these are weird things and they can go in directions you never anticipated. Enjoy the ride!
- Elaborate productions are not required. If you want to host a small gathering of 5 people to sit at the bottom of a dry well to discuss the significance of cats in Murakami's writing or perhaps a thumb war championship at the park, more power to you! Make the weird you want to see.
- The deadline for submissions is the 25th of the month. Make sure you don't miss that deadline!
